Tim Kring on the Strike...

All this operates under the assumption that the networks would even want the lion's share of their programs back before May. For instance, NBC could delay the return of Heroes until fall since creator Tim Kring thinks he can only complete three more episodes this season. That's barely enough time to relaunch the series with a new story arc entitled ''Villains'' (which they had planned to do with the second half of the season before the strike began). ''With a show like Heroes that's so strongly serialized, and given what we wanted to accomplish with the new storyline, to come back with just three episodes could be creatively dangerous,'' he says.

Ausiello: Slim to none. Due to the heavily serialized nature of the show, it's unlikely that Heroes will be back this season. Instead, NBC will likely go straight into production on Season 3.

ANDELMAN: We have to talk about “Heroes,” of course, don’t we? We can’t take live calls today, so I did the next best thing, and I solicited questions from friends of mine and fans of yours.

VENTIMIGLIA: Alright.

ANDELMAN: So these are coming from a few places here. Let’s start with this question from DigDog: “Did the writers’ strike hobble the show by forcing producers to end any of the story lines prematurely?”

VENTIMIGLIA: I don’t think it hobbled us so much as it cut us short. The writers’ strike was one of those unfortunate things that stops production. Beyond the strike, you can’t write anything new. You can only produce what’s been written. We basically ran out of material. I think the producers, it was their intent to give some kind of a wrap-up to what became a very short season just so that people weren’t left with too many questions. In my opinion, it was a good thing to do to, hopefully, tie up a couple loose ends, and we leave people wanting a little bit more.

ANDELMAN: This second season got hit by some criticism early on that it was taking too long to get to the meat. And then it seemed like those last couple weeks, the critics and the fans may have come around a little bit.

VENTIMIGLIA: Yeah, they did. We had some problems early on, still working out problems toward the end, but I know the show started to get back to that same feeling, that same sentiment that we all worked very hard for. But it’s one of those things. You just gotta understand that a season is long. You’re making usually 24 episodes, so I think when there’s a little bit of a delay, there’s not that instant, rewarding scene or moment or episode, and people get impatient. So it’s finding that balance between giving and getting.

ANDELMAN/Mr. MEDIA: It must be hard for both the writers and the actors to be on a show where the expectations are so high. You almost reach a point where, no matter what you do, you’re going to let people down. Is that the case?

MILO VENTIMIGLIA: Yeah. You’re damned if you do, you’re damned if you don’t. You just gotta know that, ultimately, the work that you’re doing, the work that you’re putting in, it’s your best efforts, and it’s everybody’s best effort. That being said, though, all those best efforts have to come together in sync. Otherwise, the show doesn’t have a heart.

ANDELMAN: Before the writers’ strike set in, how much did you know of plot lines for your character going in? And how much do you think that may change going forward with the delay in getting back into production?

VENTIMIGLIA: I knew quite a bit. I knew where we were headed, but I also had the luxury of not really having to follow too closely because Peter had amnesia. I went in for a meeting with Tim Kring before we started filming, and he said, “Peter can’t remember anything.” I said, “Okay, great. Let me know as I need to know stuff.” I just kind of waited around. Usually, you’re pretty eager to know where you’re headed. I had no idea where Peter was going to go, and it didn’t really matter at that point. Where we’re going to be going after, again, that’s all up in the air. I think the production team was taking into consideration the criticism we got and hopefully, wanting to get back on track to the same feel we had the first season. So I think things are going to switch up a little bit.

ANDELMAN: Is there any question whether you’ll stay with the show? Eric, who wrote in, said that he had heard rumors that you didn’t necessarily want to continue.

VENTIMIGLIA: Who said that?

ANDELMAN: Eric. He’s one of the people who sent in some questions for you.

VENTIMIGLIA: Really? I’m a real guy, and I also have a contract that I hope to honor. So I’ll be on the show, I think, as long as they would have me and as long as I’m obligated to it and put my best work forward, and I’ll leave everything else up to time. I’ve got other ambitions, but when it comes to the show, and when we’re in production, that’s what I’m doing.

ANDELMAN: Dr. Blogstein, who has a show on BlogTalkRadio, wanted to know this: “Are there considerations in taking a few episodes this coming season or next to go deeper into the back story and focus on your character’s parents as well as George Takei’s character and some of the older heroes?”

VENTIMIGLIA: I think that was our intent -- to understand a little bit more. That’s always been the question. People want to know how did these abilities come about? The way the shows been going -- the storyline -- it seems that there was a greater mystery as to why these people, how these people have these abilities. Again, that’s a lot up to the writers about what they’re looking to explore. And, of course, the actors, we can give our two cents in what we’d like to see, what we’d like to get into, but it’s ultimately up to the writers.

ANDELMAN: Oh. Okay. Sharon’s question is, “If you’re not dating Hayden Panettiere, who are you dating?”

VENTIMIGLIA: It’s one of those funny questions that…

ANDELMAN: I’m glad I didn’t ask.

VENTIMIGLIA: I think when you’re young and in this industry, and you work as much as I do, you try to spend time with people that want to spend time with you. That’s about all you can do.

ANDELMAN: Alright. Last question: Mimi asks, “What powers would you want in real life?”

VENTIMIGLIA: I think in a world where there are people with abilities, I’d take my character’s. He’s a sponge. He can soak up anything. But if I just had any ability, I’d want to be able to teleport. I could go have coffee in Paris if I wanted to and lunch in Italy, then be right back at home in the flash of an eye.

Volume 3 Update...

So before I start with the information about Volume 3, we got a confirmation today that one of the 3 (yes 3)...alternate endings had Nathan dying via the virus. This was rumored as the possible Vol. 2 finale, but was changed at the last moment. However, we were unable to get a confirmation about the other two endings because they still might be used somehow.

Now for Volume 3. I have some interesting news....which could be considered great, but not so great because it all depends on the strike...!?

So a very good source for Heroes just confirmed to me that almost 5 episodes of Heroes Vol. 3 have been filmed and that about 8 episodes were written. This is very interesting news because I have not heard them talk about this any where and I am kind of curious why they would not want to air what they might have.

Well apparently it is all up to NBC who is waiting to see what happens with the strike.

Our source also confirmed that the volume that was called Exodus might actually occur after all and they called it Volume 2.5. For those of you that have no idea what Exodus is, well apparently Volume 3 was initially called Exodus, but was scrapped when the ratings were being hurt and then the writer's strike occurred.

Plus, there seems to be that there is still a possibility that Origins could happen!! The highly anticipated spin-off was indefinitely canceled after the strike began, but there is a back door chance that Origins will still happen.

So depending on how soon this strike can get cleared up there might be an opportunity for us to get some new episodes....!!

Now like I said this is great info, but unless we get some sort of news from the strike I do NOT see NBC airing any episodes unless it seems like there is a natural cliffhanger with the current lot of available scripts and episodes.

So I wish I hand someting more, but for now this is all we have.

Milo Ventimiglia once again saved the world on NBC's "Heroes." Now what?

"It's funny how that always falls on my shoulders," Ventimiglia says.

In the second season finale, Ventimiglia's character, Peter Petrelli, destroyed a virus capable of annihilating most of mankind while Nathan Petrelli, Peter's high-flying brother, appeared to be assassinated at a press conference.

Ventimiglia isn't sure if Nathan (played by Adrian Pasdar) is dead.

"I really hope he's not going anywhere," Ventimiglia told The Associated Press during a telephone interview Wednesday. "That would be really disappointing to me to lose a brother and an amazing scene partner. I'm sure it's all going to work out the way it's supposed to."

Ventimiglia says he didn't watch the finale.

He wasn't alone. Ratings for Monday's episode were down from the previous week, and the conclusion of Volume Two was the lowest-rated finale episode for the show yet, according to Nielsen Media Research.

The second season of "Heroes" was cut short after the Writers Guild of America went on strike.

Ventimiglia says he's seen no scripts and has no clues about what will happen when the show returns.

"We ran out of stuff to shoot," he said. "That's basically what it boils down to."

Meanwhile, the 30-year-old actor is producing and starring in the first episode of a series of holiday-themed stop-animation short films for American Eagle Outfitters. The digital shorts also feature Lil Jon, Kristen Bell, Pete Wentz and Adrianne Palicki.

Ventimiglia, whose hair was famously chopped on "Heroes," opted for his puppet counterpart to have his longer 'do.

"I thought we should go with the bangs because they're more recognizable," he says.

Divide Pictures, Ventimiglia and partner Russ Cundiff's production company, has also optioned the movie rights to "Blades of Glory," John Rosengren's book about the Bloomington Jefferson Jaguars, a championship Minnesota high school hockey team.

Ventimiglia says he'll appear in the upcoming films "Game" and "The Chaos Theory."

"I try and take a break and take a vacation," he says, "but I keep getting wrapped up in jobs."

What was Changed During Volume 2:

1) Kristen Bell was originally suppose to be in 8 episodes and then killed off but due to fan support they are keeping her around for a bit longer

2) Elle was setup as a Bob's step daughter and the daughter of Meredith which in turn would have been Claire's SISTER but they dropped it due to lack of storylline and plot holes.

3) Stephen Tobolowsky (BOB) also had a slightly different story, he was supposed to be more evil then he is now and even recruited his SON WEST to make Claire turn against her father this was dropped early in Volume 2 for "various reasons".

Wow, so Claire was going to be Elle's sister as Kristen Bell almost leaked when she was signed on to the cast and I never saw that West would be Bob's Son, but it did feel like he was sent to watch Claire early on. Also, it did feel like Bob was planned to be this big EVIL character and then they backed off.

Ok now for what many of you want to know....the current direction for Vol. 3...please keep in mind nothing has been written and all of this is the "current" plan the writers have for the show. There is plenty of things that can change between now and well....whenever the show returns.

The Current Plan for Volume 3:

1) Ali Larter will return to the show (as Kristin at E!Online has already reported) but are planning to wrap up her storyline up in Volume 3.

2) Micah's storyline will end also

3) David Anders (Adam) will return and will meet a new friend

4) Adrian Pasdar (Nathan) well thats it up to the fans and he "might be back so don't worry."

5) Zachary Quinto (Sylar) will be more bad ass then ever and when we come back he will kill a star on the show

6) Villains is the start of something bigger for Heroes and hopefully it will be more fast pace then Generations (Volume 2).

All I can say is wow wow and wow....this all sounds very interesing, although this killing of characters and bringing them back is getting a little tiring....but I guess if you are a fan of Nathan start your campaigning right now...!!

As I mentioned in a previous blog I am in favor of darker storylines for the Superhero genre so it is good to hear that Adam and Sylar will be back terrorizing the Heroes. Also, there are other rumors floating around that Ali Larter's evil alter ego Jessica will be a part of the Volume and not Niki.

Ali Larter: According to Heroes insiders, Niki is not expected to return to the show. But her devilish alter ego Jessica? Oh yeah, we'll see her as soon as the show comes back to the beloved airwaves, when the strike is through! At least, that's the current plan according to sources, who tell me producers had "done all they could do" with Niki. Micah is not gonna be happy. But at least he'll have Monica...

David Anders: I'd bet my beloved, signed Hiro poster that Hiro's sworn nemesis will return. (I've seen that '90s flick The Vanishing and know that people can be dug up after being buried alive! Maybe we can even get Kiefer Sutherland to do the digging like he did for Nancy Travis!) Sources tell me it's not set in stone, but that the tentative plan is for Adam Monroe to be back to torment our favorite squinty teleporter, i.e. the "carp." Here's hoping he does.

Adrian Pasdar: I've heard the production and writing staff is somewhat split as to whether Nathan should return to the show when the show returns. Allow me to be the first to say WTF? Heroes without the brothers would be like Prison Break or Brothers & Sisters without the brothers: i.e., a waste of time! Surely Claire's blood can save her own father, right?! Let's say a little prayer for the older Petrelli, shall we?

The fate of Nathan, who was shot during a TV press conference, and of Niki, who may have died in an abandoned building explosion, are "up in the air and will be determined when we come back after the strike," Kring says. "Things are fairly dire for them both." Immortal Adam was teleported by Hiro (Masi Oka) into a coffin buried in the same Japanese cemetery where his father Kaito (George Takei), who was slain by Adam, is also buried. "It's poetic justice to have Adam end up in the same graveyard as Kaito," Kring notes. "We've given the audience no reason to believe that Adam can figure a way to get out of there. The fact that he can live forever makes this the most gruesome of internments. If this happened to any of us, at least we'd know we'd soon have the mercy of death. Not here."

Witchy, bitchy Elle, who wound up saving the lives of Mohinder (Sendhil Ramamurthy), Maya (Dania Ramirez) and little Molly (Adair Tishler), clearly sparked when Mohinder called her a hero. "Kristen Bell gave us the perfect reaction in that scene," Kring says. "For a moment there, Elle sees she's been given an opportunity to use her powers in a good way. And she absolutely likes the sound of that word 'hero.'" Not to worry. There are plenty more baddies coming after the writers' strike concludes. In fact, the title of Volume 3 — "Villains" — says it all.

"We've introduced a cadre of them over the course of the show and we're going to see them rise up," Kring says. "Just as the heroes have found each other to save the world, the villains will do the same with the opposite intent." And their numbers may be legion. "The Company has catalogued many of these people over the years. There may be more of them down in that basement than we have alluded to so far."

Will Sylar (Zachary Quinto) be their ringleader? After being electro-zapped by Elle, Mister Eyebrows escaped to a back alley and skeevily injected himself with Claire's (Hayden Panettiere) blood. Then, in a wicked salute to Popeye, he telekinetically grabbed a can of spinach and said, "I'm back!"

"Sylar getting his power back does not bode well for our heroes," says Kring, who admits there is one upside to the writers' strike: Originally, Quinto was not going to be available for much of Volume 3 because of his commitment to the new Star Trek film. Now, with the strike dragging on, he'll likely be done playing young Spock by the time Heroes returns to production.

Cloverfield Easter Eggs...

Part of the viral marketing campaign for JJ Abrams upcoming movie Cloverfield was about a drink called SLUSHO. This drink seems to be JJ Abrams' version of a Slurpee/Icee and has appeared in another one of his shows as well, Alias.

After last week's episode aired images of Slusho appearing in the episode (2.09 Cautionary Tales) surfaced along with some promo pics of the cast holding the drink in their hands.

Well once again this week (2.10 Truth and Consequences) SLUSHO made another appearance when Elle was drinking a SLUSHO while watching Claire.

What this all means no one really knows, but Greg Grunberg who plays Matt in Heroes is a long time childhood friend of JJ Abrams, so most likely that is the main connection. Some of course are joking that Hiro will time travel to fight the Cloverfield monster.

I finally caught up on Heroes. Saw the last two episodes yesterday. Wow. Glad to see the writers are finally making it interesting. And that they killed off the bobbsey twins. Hooray! Two bad one of them had to come back to life. Hate when that happens!!

But a topless wet Sylar is a pretty thing to behold. Smile (I'm so bad.)

lol wait what?!!?!?!?! You saw episodes 10 & 11? They killed off Maya and Alejandro? And one of them came back to life??? Who?! and how (claire's blood?) OMG fill me in!!

Hmmm... what to say, what to say. Lot's of reunions - Hiro and Kensei, Peter and Nathan, Mohinder and Sylar. Some heroes die (well, could go either way knowing the Heroes universe).

Masi Oka was interviewed a couple days ago on the radio saying they'd reshot some extra scenes and alternate endings to make the last episode sort of a finale if the strike goes on. They did a good job of setting it up as a resolution as well as some great cliffhangers.

Loving the return of Sylar. Sad that HRG is back with the company. And bye-bye to the flying boy. Oh, and very satisfying end for Kensei. Tee hee.

Heh... i've heard some spoilers- apparently kensei gets buried alive in a cement/metal casket? hehe And what happens to West? Does he die, and if so, how? How do Maya & Alejandro get killed? Sorry to disappoint you, but Sylar has to go a bit old school when killing. And the one that lives - well, you didn't think Sylar would let Mohinder inject him with someone without testing it on someone else first, did you?

Nope.

I think Elle is realizing her dad is an ass. She may not get the bad guy, but she's discovering that pleasant feeling that comes with saving people's lives.

Heroes went on location to the beach at San Pedro, California, to shoot a scene (airing tonight, 9 pm/ET, on NBC) in which Company men Mohinder (Sendhil Ramamurthy) and Bob (Stephen Tobolosky) plan to swap Claire (Hayden Panettiere) for Bob’s daughter Elle (Kristen Bell), who is being held by Claire’s pop HRG. (Jack Coleman). Got that? The chick exchange will lead to a deadly climax — one prophesied in an Isaac Mendez painting — but right now Panettiere and Bell just wanna have fun. We sat down with these two real-life pals for a seaside chitchat.
TVGuide.com: This is the first time Claire and Elle are in a scene together — the meeting of the hot blonde babes!
Kristen Bell: Yes, it’s the highly anticipated standoff millions are waiting to see! I dressed for the occasion.
Hayden Panettiere: And I — what else is new? — am in my cheerleading outfit. It really disappointed me because Kristen’s in heels and a cool designer outfit. They dress you nice at the Company.
Bell: This is what I wear to the office to kill people. But I wish I was in the cheerleader outfit.
Panettiere: Would they notice if we swapped? It could be like Parent Trap! But Kristen’s not too coordinated. She keeps zapping people and falling over.
Bell: That’s because they’ve got me zapping people in high heels! I look like I’m in a comedy sketch!
Panettiere: Save it, honey. Last season, I had to do a dive out of a window and then do a tuck 'n’ roll — all in 4-inch-heels, OK? It was easy.

TVGuide.com: Divas, please! You’re both wonderful. Now, tell us about the scene.
Panettiere: Elle knows all about Claire, but Claire has no idea who Elle is. All she knows is that HRG is holding Elle hostage for a reason and that Elle is giving her an evil look — so I give her one right back. I’m looking her up and down like “Who are you, bitch?” And she’s like, “You don’t know me but I know you, bitch!”
Bell: The whole idea is that Elle and Claire are two sides of the same coin.
Panettiere: Yeah, HRG didn’t turn Claire into the Company because he knew they’d experiment on her. He knew what they’d turn her into. But Elle’s dad didn’t protect her that way.
Bell: Bodies are not able to take that much electricity and pain, and so Elle’s psychologically a little off her rocker.
Panettiere: We’re like the yin…
Bell: … and the yang.
Panettiere: And now Elle is Claire gone bad.… We don’t technically meet in this scene since we don’t have lines. I do my nasty glare and, trust me, it didn’t require much acting.
Bell: That’s OK. There’s a scene later where I get to zap the hell out of her with my lightning bolts.
Panettiere: [Rolling her eyes] Puh-leeze. She misses me and hits West [Nick D’Agosto].
Bell: I thought I hit you.
Panettiere: No, you hit him. Then he passes out on top of me and crushes me. What a gentleman.
Bell: Men! [Both squeal with laughter]

Sendhil Ramamurthy: [Strolling by and overhearing] She doesn’t bother worrying about which of us she electrocutes. She doesn’t care. That’s the real Kristen Bell. Put that in your interview! [He laughs and wanders off]
Panettiere: Our characters are going to have a very interesting relationship. We relate to each other; we get each other.
Bell: Yeah, we’re definitely connected. Our dynamic will change over the course of the next few episodes. Just wait. You’ll find out that Elle holds the key to Claire’s future. I have a past with Peter and a past with Claire’s dad and a future with Claire.
Panettiere: No, you have a past with my dad and a present with Peter.
Bell: No, I have a future with Peter… no wait... [Exasperated]. I do need to read the script.

TVGuide.com: Forget the future, let’s discuss the past. You both knew each other as young actors in New York, right?
Panettiere: She used to change my diapers.
Bell: I did not change Hayden’s diapers!
Panettiere: We met when I was 8.
Bell: And I was… [Hesitates]… well, I don’t want to say how old I was. [Laughs] We were both with the same agency. Hayden doesn’t remember this but I happened to be in the office the day she booked Remember the Titans and she came in with her mom to celebrate. I was there having a meeting and all the agents were saying, ‘We knew it, Hayden! We knew you’d get the movie!” She had these long beautiful blonde curls.
Panettiere: [Grimacing] I know, I know…. Don’t rub it in.
Bell: She was adorable.
Panettiere: And I went to see Kristen on Broadway in Tom Sawyer. I remember that very clearly.
Bell: Did you want to grow up to be me? Do you still want to?
[Panettiere pretends she didn’t hear the question] No, the truth is, Hayden was a very big deal already back then. She was also on Guiding Light at that point. I was just doing Broadway Schmroadway.

TVGuide.com: [To Bell] Did you ever want to get on a soap opera?
Bell: No. Musical theater was my be-all-end-all. That was my ultimate dream.
Panettiere: And then her dream was crushed — now she’s only on Heroes.
Bell: Maybe Elle could sing.
Panettiere: I have always said there should be a musical episode: There is a lot of singing on the set.
Bell: Everybody would try to outdo each other! It would be a total catfight. Jack Coleman sings all day long. Sendhil sings. One day in the car, Masi Oka [Hiro], Zach Quinto [Sylar] and I decided to start a band. It could be like the Heroes all put on a talent show! You know, Hayden and I have been saying for a long time that we wanted to work together, so it’s kinda fun that we now get to be rough and tough because we’re not friends.
Panettiere: Not friends on the show, she means. We’re such good friends in real life that we carpooled to the set today.
Bell: I drove and we got so lost we wound up in a Lowe’s parking lot somewhere.
Panettiere: Yeah, and she wanted to drop me off there.
Bell: I said, “OK, Hayden, you’re here, get out!”
Panettiere: I was like, “Kristen, we’re supposed to be shooting at San Pedro beach today, not Santa Monica beach!”
Bell: I had us in the wrong place. We had like 10 minutes to get to the set and we were still 45 minutes away.
Panettiere: Now it turns out she’s working here till sundown and I’m out after just a couple more shots. So I’m stuck here for hours with no way to get home. I didn’t even bring a book. This wasn’t the best plan.
Bell: I’m sure everyone would love to think I sabotaged her, but it ain’t the truth. But we do enjoy sabotaging each other on screen, if we can keep a straight face.
Panettiere: Our scene today was so hard. I was trying not to laugh. At least Kristen gets to have a smirk on her face. But I have to restrain myself.

TVGuide.com: Unlike what you did on Live with Regis and Kelly a while back.
Bell: Whaaat? What did you do?
Panettiere: I said the F-word. And it was all over the Internet. I was outside the studio and the paparazzi were pushing this little kid to get to me.
Bell: I would have straight-up knocked somebody out if they were pushing a kid.
Panettiere: I just blurted it out, it wasn’t even intentional.
Bell: [Riveted] Ooh, what did you say… like “WTF”?
Panettiere: I think so, very quickly, and somebody managed to catch it.

TVGuide.com: But you came off like a true superhero — protecting a little kid in jeopardy!
Panettiere: Honestly, did they need to report about that? There’s nothing else going on in the world except an 18-year-old — a legal adult — saying the F-word?
Bell: Hayden has the most level head of any 18-year-old I’ve ever met. She’s handling her fame with real grace, isn’t she? I couldn’t do what she does.
Panettiere: Oh, thanks. I had you as a role model. [She reaches over and caresses Bell’s face tenderly and they laugh like crazy]

Panettiere: [Perking up] Yeah, how long?
Bell: Hayden just wants to know because she likes to cradle my face.

That's when we finally see what happened after Peter (Milo Ventimiglia) and Nathan (Adrian Pasdar) flew up in the sky and went nuclear in last May's season finale. "We find out how they both survived the explosion," says coexecutive producer Jeph Loab. "We also learn how Peter wound up half-naked with amnesia in a box in Ireland and why Nathan -- who keeps seeing his post-radiation monster face in the mirror -- now looks normal." Will the boozing, guilt-racked Natahn, who has abandoned his hopes for the White House, ever get his act together? "He's been through the proverbial fire and paid a terrible price, but this could strenghten his political backbone," Pasdar says. "When all the plot pieces come together, I think there will be empathy for Nathan." Also revealed in that flashback hour: How D.L. Adrian Pasdar Spills Secrets...

In the first season of Heroes (Mondays at 9 pm/ET, NBC), Adrian Pasdar's Nathan Petrelli seemed to have it all: a loving family, a swank house, a successful Senate bid. But he sacrificed it all to save New York from nuclear apocalypse by flying off with his brother, Peter (Milo Ventimiglia), right before his bro went boom. As this season began, a scruffy Nathan seemed to have lost everything. Pasdar spoke to TVGuide.com about his character's transformation, Season 2's slow start, the writers' strike and a Petrelli-brothers reunion.

TVGuide.com: This week, we're going back four months ago to see what happened after the gang defeated Sylar. Can you tell us how Nathan and Peter survived?
Adrian Pasdar: We filmed this stuff a month or six weeks ago, and we spent a lot of time about 30 feet above the cement floor of Stage 7. It'll knock your socks off — in fact, it did knock one of my shoes off, during the stunt. It picks up right where the finale left off, and there's a good deal of explanation as to what's been happening, why I see that face in the mirror periodically.

TVGuide.com: Yah, what's with the burned version of himself that Nathan keeps seeing?
Pasdar: That has become an alternate him from a real result... I can't be much more specific than that. At one point that was pretty much him. And it's not so much him anymore.

TVGuide.com: Nathan has gone through a major change — last season he was so fixated on his public image, and now his priorities have clearly shifted.
Pasdar: The events that happened between the finale of last year and the beginning of the season this year altered his perspective on who he was and his ability to impact people around him. He lost his way a little bit — he had more of an inner search for what was important, and he ends up losing all the things that he held very close to him. It's an attempt for him to regain not only the elements of his past but what the pieces are that made up who he was. All of those things kind of got fractured in the finale — they exploded, in a way. [Laughs] I've missed working with Milo — our paths have been divergent, have been separate. But we do get back together in the last few episodes that we've filmed. They're a reunion of sorts.

TVGuide.com: I, for one, was pretty glad to see that beard of yours go.
Pasdar: Really? You and my wife [Dixie Chicks frontwoman Natalie Maines] both.

TVGuide.com: Have you ever worn a beard like that before?
Pasdar: I don't think I'd be able to get away with that for too long — I don't think my wife, for one, would have it.

TVGuide.com: Will we get to see Nathan's wife and the kids again this week?
Pasdar: Their involvement is quite a bit less than it was last year; I think it's one of the things he's got to work to get back. He was forced to walk away, or crawl away.

TVGuide.com: Shouldn't Nathan be serving in the Senate by now?
Pasdar: You'd think there would be political aspirations in his future, but I think you've got to regain your ability to control your day-to-day before you can even purport to be able to govern people. He did win the election, and he resigned his seat. It was a decision that he thought was probably best not only for himself but for the people he was supposed to represent, since he was not able to do it effectively given the fact that he was on fire.

TVGuide.com: Figuratively, or literally on fire?
Pasdar: Well... [Laughs] I can't answer that. I can neither confirm nor deny.

TVGuide.com: Will we see any more of Nathan and Claire together?
Pasdar: Yes, there will be more. That depends on the strike.

TVGuide.com: Does Nathan have any other children floating around who we haven't met yet?
Pasdar: [Laughs] As far as I know, no, but that doesn't mean there aren't. The writers haven't told me about any others. I can't imagine Nathan having been that careless more than once.

TVGuide.com: In a recent article, Tim Kring apologized for the beginning of the season. What do you think of the apology — was it necessary? Was it appropriate?
Pasdar: The decisions these guys have made creatively didn't pay off as broadly as they wish they might have. I think it's courageous of him — whenever you work on a TV show like this, the expectations are just so high, especially after such a stellar first season. The challenge is not to re-create that but to reinvent yourself, and that's what they're trying to do. I think it's courageous, noble, bold and ultimately admirable for him to step forward and say, "What we tried to do didn't work out as well as we thought it would, and we're going to go back and retool." You take a chance sometimes. According to Tim, it didn't pan out the way they wanted it to. He has an allegiance to the fans, and he's ultimately doing it for viewers. You want as many people to stay tuned as possible.

TVGuide.com: I understand that the Dec. 3 episode has been reworked to serve as a season finale if the strike continues. Do you think it will come to that?
Pasdar: It's looking like that now, although it's hard to say. I think the strike will be far weightier and far more devastating than people actually assume. I was on the picket line with the strikers the other day, and my opinion is that people have no idea about the nature of the contracts that are forged and the loopholes in them. They're very fragile. It's been a surprise to a lot of people. The entertainment business generates I think an estimated $80 million a day in this town; not all that money is going to be lost, because there are still people employed, but that's a lot of money. It's a lot of GI Joes with Kung-Fu Grip that aren't going to be given out at Christmas. Not to mention that the people who watch TV aren't going to be able to have any new programs. Nobody wants the strike; every single writer is devastated that it's come to this. Nobody stood up and said, "Let's strike; we want more money." But for the producers to say there isn't enough money in Hollywood to go around, that's somewhat of an arrogant stance.

TVGuide.com: Anybody in the cast you'd like to work with but haven't had a chance to yet?
Pasdar: I've worked with just about everybody except for Jack [Coleman, who plays Noah Bennet, aka HRG] — one of the guys I have a great relationship with but unfortunately I'm not able to have much screentime with. In fact, we share a daughter [Claire]. He's probably the only one, other than James Kyson Lee [who plays Ando]. I haven't worked with any of the new ones, like Kristen [Bell, who plays Elle] and Dana [Davis, who plays Monica]; it's hard to see where our storylines would cross naturally, and they're very good about not forcing storylines to meet. They have to come together of their own volition.

TVGuide.com: I know that you used to skydive — do you think that's like the non-superhuman version of flying?
Pasdar: I used to do quite a bit more of that before I had children; my wife kind of frowns upon me jumping out of a perfectly fine airplane. It's a lot of fun — people think that it's about giving up control, but it's actually quite the opposite; you have to be in complete control in order to safely land after jumping out of a plane. The flying we do on the show is antithetical to what it looks like; I'm hanging from a harness while everyone else is moving, the camera's moving, the grips are moving. It doesn't feel much like flying. It's actually nothing like jumping out of a plane at 12,000 feet and free-falling.

TVGuide.com: Speaking of your wife — I just wanted to mention that I'm a big Dixie Chicks fan.
Pasdar: Well, me too. It's a great thing to have a wife who can sing those lullabies to our children. It puts a whole new spin on "Mary Had a Little Lamb."

Heroes creator Tim Kring has revealed that the show will cap volume two on December 3 with an "out of the blue cliffhanger".

Confirming that volume two will end on December 3, Kring told USA Today that fans can expect a complete turnaround in the pace of the show over the next month. "[The episodes] are among the absolute best we have ever done."

Cast member Milo Ventimiglia added that "we'd gotten away a little from what the show is" and that "we're getting back on track".

Kring, who is refusing to cross WGA picket lines to work on the show, said that the series' segmented approach permitted an early end to volume two. "In an oddly kismet kind of way, we have a real finale that could act, God forbid, as the end of season two," he explained.

Jack Coleman arrived late on the scene as he had actually just left shooting the much talked about alternate ending for "Heroes," the ending that may have to be used if the writers' strike ends up cutting this season short.

So, he is in Episode 11 at least. Of course that could be a flashback, but it probably means that he is indeed still very much alive.

On the chilly Monday morning that Hollywood's writers went on strike, Heroes creator Tim Kring called from the streets outside the Hollywood studio where his NBC series is shot. ''Yes, I'm picketing my own show,'' says the 50-year-old writer-producer. ''So surreal.''

But Kring wasn't calling to discuss labor woes — he was calling to explain why Heroes, suffering a creative decline and a 15 percent ratings drop from the same period last year, went from Human Torch hot to Iceman cold. The good news? A turnaround appears to be under way. After weeks of sluggish storytelling, the Nov. 5 episode recaptured some of last season's fanciful energy. We've also seen the next two episodes — and we like them, too. The cliff-hangers are back. Narrative purpose has been discovered. Old favorites like Peter (Milo Ventimiglia) and Horn-Rimmed Glasses (Jack Coleman) take center stage. Even more encouraging: Kring himself is keenly aware that Heroes is broken. Here's his candid critique:

THE PACE IS TOO SLOW ''We assumed the audience wanted season 1 — a buildup of intrigue about these characters and the discovery of their powers. We taught [them] to expect a certain kind of storytelling. They wanted adrenaline. We made a mistake.''

THE WORLD-SAVING STAKES SHOULD HAVE BEEN ESTABLISHED SOONER The premonition of nuclear apocalypse created a larger context that unified every story line last season. Kring now sees that Volume 2 (the first 11 episodes of season 2) would have been better served if Peter's vision of viral Armageddon had appeared in the season premiere rather than episode 7. ''We took too long to get to the big-picture story,'' he says.

THE ROOKIES DIDN'T GREET THEMSELVES PROPERLY New Heroes Monica (Dana Davis), Maya (Dania Ramirez), and Alejandro (Shalim Ortiz) ''shouldn't have been introduced in separate story lines that felt unattached to the show. The way we introduced Elle (Kristen Bell) — by weaving her in via Peter's story line — is a more logical way to bring new characters into the show.'' (That said, Kring says a few newbies won't make it beyond this second volume, which wraps Dec. 3.)

HIRO WAS IN JAPAN WAY TOO LONG Hiro's (Masi Oka) time-bending adventure in 17th-century Japan — where he mentored samurai hero Takezo Kensei (David Anders) — finally came to an end on Nov. 5. But Kring says it ''should have [lasted] three episodes. We didn't give the audience enough story to justify the time we allotted it.''

YOUNG LOVE STINKS Kring regrets sticking Claire (Hayden Panettiere) with a super-dud boyfriend and forcing Hiro to moon over a cutesy princess. ''I've seen more convincing romances on TV,'' he admits. ''In retrospect, I don't think romance is a natural fit for us.''

Yet while Heroes has finally found some dramatic traction, this second volume is pretty much a wash. The Dec. 3 episode has been retooled to function as a potential season finale — a move inspired by the writers' strike and a desire to give the show ''a clean slate'' when it goes back into production for Volume 3. At that point, Kring wants to craft a rebooted Heroes that can attract new fans and win back those who've tuned out: ''The message is that we've heard the complaints — and we're doing something about it.''

Heroes' second season may be coming to a close a lot sooner than expected due to the forthcoming apocalypse, also known in some circles as the damn writers' strike.

Sources confirm that the show is going back and shooting an alternate ending to the Dec. 3 episode that, if used, would allow the episode to function as a season finale in the event of a strike. Originally, the episode was only supposed to serve as the conclusion of the current "Generations" arc. Should an 11th-hour agreement be reached and a strike averted (fingers crossed!), the alt ending would likely be scrapped.

Actress Hayden Panettiere has been involved in a violent confrontation with Japanese fishermen as she tried to disrupt their annual dolphin slaughter.

The 18-year-old star of the TV blockbuster Heroes paddled out on a surfboard in an attempt to reach a pod of dolphins to stop them being driven into a nearby cove and killed.

But the six surfers, from Australia and the United States, were intercepted by a fishing boat before they could reach the dolphins.

The fishermen used the boat's propellers to block their way and at one point struck out with a boathook.

It was an ugly and potentially life-threatening confrontation that lasted more than 10 minutes before the surfers were forced to return to the beach.

It is believed that the dolphins were later taken into the cove and killed.

Panettiere, who is a keen surfer and a committed marine conservationist and supporter of the campaign to save the Japan dolphins, said: "It was really frightening.

"Some of us were hit by the boathook. But in the end all we really worried about was the dolphins.

"It was so incredibly sad. We were so close to them and they were sky hopping, jumping out of the water to see us."

Breaking down in tears, she added: "One little baby dolphin stuck his head out and kinda looked at me and the thought that it's no longer with us is really hard to take."

The surfers drove straight to Osaka airport and left the country to avoid arrest by the Japanese national police.

All would have been charged with trespass, but Panettiere is now back in Los Angeles.

More than 22,000 dolphins are slaughtered by fishermen in Japan every year. The hunt continues despite worldwide condemnation.

In Taijie, more than 2,000 mammals are slaughtered in the season.

Many Japanese believe dolphins should be treated like fish. They have been hunting dolphins for centuries and see any criticism of this as an attack on their culture.

False Start for NBC's 'Heroes:Origin'...

Fears of a writers strike may have already contributed to a decision NBC made Wednesday to pull the highly anticipated spinoff miniseries of its hit "Heroes" from a midseason launch.

NBC declined comment, but "Heroes: Origins" is not going to get its six-episode run, which was expected to start as early as late April. While the network hasn't officially canceled the spinoff, producers of the series have been given no indication of when it might get a spot on the schedule.

Sources indicated "Origins" may be just the first of many projects lined up at the broadcast networks in 2008 that will get downgraded as a result of the potential strike, which could severely affect the TV industry. Budget allocations made months ago for a range of scripted programs, many of which will not be feasible without sidelined writers, will likely be reconsidered and potentially shifted to strike-proof material like reality and news programs.

"Origins" had been highly touted as a midseason addition since NBC's upfront in May, when then-entertainment president Kevin Reilly envisioned spelling "Heroes" when it took a late-season hiatus. The network had been promoting "Origins" well in advance of its premiere, noting the enlistment of such top directors as Kevin Smith and Eli Roth to write and direct select episodes.

However, it is also possible that NBC, now under the creative direction of Ben Silverman, may have seen its enthusiasm diminish for an expansion of the "Heroes" franchise given a pronounced ratings drop-off in recent weeks for the flagship series.

It is unclear at what stage "Origins" was in the preproduction process, though it is unlikely scripts had been completed.

Series creator Tim Kring says that the photograph of "The 12" glimpsed at last week holds many clues. "We will be seeing the people in the photo," he shares, "and I think all of the actors posed in the picture will be the same ones appearing on the show." Kring says that snapshot was no snap to create: "Logistically, it was difficult to come up with this photograph that is used now and refers to things that are filmed well into the future, but it is as accurate as we can make it." As for one of the new elders looking a bit familiar, he allows, "She does look an awful lot like Joanna Cassidy...."
